At Kilimanjaro International Airport, our transfer driver will welcome you and drive you to a hotel close to Arusha. The remainder of the day is yours to enjoy as you please. You can relax by the lodge pool or explore the town of Arusha. Later in the afternoon, our team will provide you with a briefing regarding what to anticipate on your upcoming trek.
After breakfast, you'll be transported from the lodge to the Lemosho Gate situated at an altitude of 2,385 meters. This is where you'll register with the national park authorities and embark on your trek through a lush rainforest. The moderately steep path winds through untouched natural forest to the Big Tree Camp (2,780 meters). For the initial 2 days of your trek, an armed ranger will accompany you due to the presence of wildlife in the area. You'll spend the night in tents at Big Tree Camp. Meals provided will include breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The day's trek features various ascents and descents, beginning with the steepest section of the entire route, the Barranco Wall. The climb may require some hand usage, but your guides will be nearby to assist you. Once at the top of the Barranco Wall, you'll traverse the mountain ridge, offering breathtaking vistas of Kibo's southern glacier and the summit itself. Around midday, you'll reach Karanga Camp, a point for a well-deserved rest and sustenance. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner will be provided.
After breakfast, your trek through the alpine desert continues until you reach the Barafu Camp, situated at an altitude of 4,640 meters. The hike takes approximately 3 to 4 hours, allowing you ample time to rest and ready yourself for the upcoming summit night. An early dinner will be served, after which you will retire for an early bedtime. Midnight marks the start of your ascent. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner will be provided.
After a light snack and warming tea, prepare for the dark ascent to Uhuru Peak around midnight. Walking on frozen lava ash, guided by headlamps, the journey takes approximately 5 to 7 hours, leading to the crater rim of Mt Kilimanjaro, specifically Stella Point. From there, follow the crater ridge to reach the "Roof of Africa" at Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), greeted by the breathtaking sunrise. Once you've captured the incredible scenery, return to a welcoming crew at Barafu Camp. After a satisfying hot lunch and a well-deserved break, proceed to Mweka Camp for overnight camping. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner will be provided.
Indulge in a delicious breakfast and participate in a traditional farewell ceremony with your mountain crew before commencing your final descent from the mountain. As you trek through the rainforest, keep an eye out for playful colobus monkeys. Eventually, you'll arrive at the Mweka Gate. From there, transport will be waiting to take you back to the Meru View Lodge, where you can enjoy a long, refreshing shower and a relaxed day by the pool. Spend the night at the Tulia Boutique Hotel and Spa with bed and breakfast provided.
Today, the AfroKlan Expeditions Team will arrange a private transfer for your departure to either Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport. This transfer will ensure you reach your flight back home or connect to a flight headed to Zanzibar Island.
